I tried several times with different versions of drivers, but this one did the job properly. It is also only intended for the English version of Windows 98, although there are some other language versions below.
Please read this first.
I just picked up the cheapest 4gb one i could find at a nearby store and voila! Version 3 of the drivers includes generic USB 2. I have not tested or tried these, be careful.

Next time devices should be installed automatically. Some manufacturers do however, provide the Windows 98 drivers on CD, others have them available to download, and others simply do not have them available at all. Windows 98SE is actually not too bad at handling mass storage drivers for a USB storage device IF you have a driver wiindows that accompanied it or a download is available.
You should note, that these drivers are generic, and they may not work with some devices. I just pop the chip and plug it into a card reader and it works! Using the site is easy and fun. If you are using Windows 98, and you do not know the manufacturer of the storage device, or you can’t find the drivers, what can you do? Updating the old software is very expensive, so the decision was to stay with Windows 98 and try to source parts that can support this ageing operating system. Every time I try to open it a windows pops up asking me to format it. You might have just been lucky that the USB sticks you were using had drivers that shipped with Windowsbut looking around on Google, most people aren’t so lucky.

There is actually a third party Service Pack for Windows 98 Second Edition which is still being updated well intoeven though Microsoft ended their support for Windows 98 on the 11th of July !

When I try to copy larger file then after some time there is error displayed file not available. This way all you need to do is plug the drive in, Windows will recognise it and you will automatically see the drive in My Computer.
